I SO agree with you! I feel that it is just another form of discrimination not to let it happen! This is the land of the free! I believe that the arguement against gay marriage for religious reasons is wrong because it is not those people's souls that is living in sin and it doesn't affect their rights. Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." Everyone can believe what they want to believe in but don't suppress other people for it!
I am excited for your speach i believe that it is very apropriate for our class -Melanie
I agree. People should be able to be with the partners they care about, regardless of sex, ethnicity and other social nuances. It would keep the court system clear of cases involving property disputes, death disputes, etc as well. Unfortunately so many laws are tied to "marriage" or biological relationships; from being able to visit your loved one in the hospital to burying someone. Same sex partners should have the same rights as heterosexual partners. Corinna
I do not agree that same-sex marriage should be legalized. I believe that the definition of marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman. Also, like we talked about in class, I hope you will go into the benefits given and/or harm done to children if this were legalized.
I do not agree that marriage should be legalized for same-sex partnerships. Marriage is ordained of God between a man and a woman since the foundation of the world. I do, however believe that partners should be able to visit in the hospital, name each other as beneficiaries, etc. These benefits should be legalized in court documents such as living wills, life insurance policies, etc. You should have the right to name whomever you wish to inherit your estate, visit you in the hospital, etc. I think that people have a right to choose how they live, but that the definition of marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
this is such a hard topic!! i think they should be given the same legal rights as every other married couple, but i dont know about the marriage. I feel like a lot of people would take advantage of this especially to get citizenships or things that really defeat the purpose of a marriage.
Mai you do bring up some good arguements! however people already abuse the right of marriage that way so i can see that marriage between same sex would expand that issue! however i still believe that they should have the right! like you said it is a very hard topic!!!! Everyone is bringing up great arguements!! -Melanie
I totally agree. I don't think Corinna could have said it better. By not allowing us this basic right of choosing our life partner, I believe that a serious human right is being infringed upon. -Brittany
I do not agree. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman because of many factors. Not only because I believe homosexuality is morally wrong, but also because of the biology of humans and also the health risks of homosexuality. Also, homosexuals cannot have children, and this and other factors would do more harm than good to our culture, to our population, and to the future of our children.
I really respect the comments of many of you on this issue. I think Kathy pretty much summed up my thoughts. There are too many rights/privileges/benfits that are restricted only to a married couple. I believe many of these things need to be revised. But, addressing just your thesis, I take the position of the Bible's definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman.
I disagree. Same sex marriage would do more harm than good. Considering the fact that marriage is usually between a man and a woman and it has been for ages. To have a new way of seeing legalized between a man and a man would possibly corrupt the future generation in seeing thing. I totally respect other point of view but this is just what think. It doesn't have any good to it.
i dont agree that same sex marrages should be legalized. i agree with everything kathy said. there is no better way to put it. they have the right to live how they want but it should not be legal.
Yeah man work with this. Your first speech went really well and you definitely have the knowledge to pull this one off. I would try and focus on how same-sex marriage will give the same rights to those couples. How they are living the same relationship as opposite sex marriage. Both raise families, they are still paying taxes contributing to society in the same ways. I truly believe that because marriage is defined by god as being between man and woman a domestic partnership with all the same rights as marriage but different title would make sense, opposite sex couples who do not practice faith could also use this title? Go with what you want though, you'll do great either way.
I disagree. I don't call a partnership between a gay couple, no matter how monogamous and committed it is, a marriage. I must, of course allow and respect the choices of my fellow countrymen, just like they need to allow and respect mine. But the political issue at hand isn't whether two gay people have the choice to fall in love, or live together, or buy property, etc. They absolutely do, and those choices are protected by our constitution. When a gay couple is asking to be married they are proposing something that is not possible. Marriage is between a husband and wife, male and female, two different genders. Co-habitating partnerships of themselves have had a radical impact on our society. I'm certain we don't understand the full extent of them yet, even among heterosexual couples. Specifically, what does it mean for children? Instead of legislation, what we need is social dialogue, open and continuing dialogue. There have been many social movements in the past 100 years, segments of the population screaming for certain "rights" without understanding the difference between a right and a privilege, without considering the consequences of their choices. Remember prohibition? Women in the workplace? Agribusiness? When we redefine our social systems, are we really better off in the long run? America is about having the choice, history is about learning from our past. What will make for a stable, productive, prosperous society? Perhaps, more individual sacrifices are required.
Very strongly disagree. There are soooo many psychological issues that would emerge in the youth of today and that become even a bigger problem. Another reason is that I think it's kind of gross for 2 guys to... get married... it's not really how humans were made... marriage was made to be between a man and a woman... not a dude and another dude. Also, gay marriage is unbiblical.
I agree. No matter how look at gay marriage in your own personal life that should not be affected by the way the government looks at marriage. It is just like saying a white and black person should be able to get married. It is wrong. We should not discriminate. If you don't support gays getting married on a personal level that is you just being discriminatory, but that type of discrimination should not be allowed in our government
I do not know this issue in even nearly enough details, nor know much about marriage to be on either side of it. Looking for even better speech delivery.
I am not exactly sure about this topic. Maybe because I am not familiar with this subject. I will let the people that understand in it to vote.
