I disagree. I believe that gun control would do more harm than good. People are not going to be willing to give up their firearms and people will find other ways to be violent other than with guns. I believe there are many other factors which contribute to school violence, however it is not soley guns.
I believe that they should not be allowed in schools or other places like that but it would create a lot of issues if people were outlawed from having guns -Melanie
I disagree. There are so many deeper roots to the school violence issue. About the only gun control I'm for is the ban on assault rifles and certain automatic weapons.
I am unclear if you mean gun control only in the schools or gun control for the nation. I am all for metal detectors in schools (which will hopefully catch more than guns), but have a difficult time seeing the nation give up its rights to own guns. There are already laws in place for gun access, what additional controls would you recommend? Maybe we should outlaw violent video games which creates the mindset that death isn't real, which I tend to wonder is the bigger issue with youth violence.(let alone poverty, both parents working so less supervision etc) Corinna
I'm not quite sure if I agree or disagree with your thesis? Do you mean state-wide gun control? Or guns on school grounds? Guns are already not promitted on school grounds. I'm also unsure if this really will curb school violence? Since there isn't anything that could really show this (studies, stats.) I'm not sure if this is a viable thesis since you may have a hard time finding substancial support and evidence. -Brittany
I disagree. I Believe that there are many many more reasons for school violence than the availability of guns. We need to solve the root of the violence problem. Jennie
I disagree with your thesis, I think there are so many other sources that contribute to violence in schools that would not go away just from gun control.
This is tough ground. What type of legislation are you proposing? Are you trying to persuade us that anyone under 21 cannot own a gun? Handle a gun? Buy a gun? How would you enforce something like that? Last year, I lived in Flagstaff, AZ, and there hunting is the number one sport. There would be a huge backlash against any law that tried to limit people in this pursuit; it is part of their culture and lifestyle. How would gun control affect something like that? While I definitely think schools need to be safe, I don't know how you can just focus on guns. It seems like the law abiding citizens follow the rules, keep their guns locked up and apply for licenses. The people who want to harm others with guns are willing, obviously, to break all the laws, so what good would legislation really do?
i definitly think that guns should not be allowed on campuses, but I am not sure if gun control will really help. even in places with high gun control children and teens are still able to access guns, and guns themselves do not promote violence. there needs to be some other alternative to help children/teens act/think less violently.
Gun control is already a focus at most schools in our nation. Perhaps a focus on something that has not yet really been tested. The problem with school violence is that it ever happens in the first place. You should try and find a program that works to prevent school violence before is happens. Some sort of counseling program, outreach programs for struggling students something along those lines.
Sure, why wouldn't gun control help reduce the amount of school violences we see? I agree with this and think there should be at least SOME sort of gun control.
I agree. Gun control would help to make it so people have a harder time getting guns. It will not eliminate the problem of guns in schools but it will help.
I believe that with right actions, elimination of home owned gun(s) rights can do the good, but doing it in such rush as the thesis states it will provoke much resistance. In part I do agree.
I agree that we need to find a solution for school violence. Although, guns may be proven very difficult to control due to the various "legitimate" groups that carry them (ie., hunting, self-defense, etc). The more immediate and direct method to curb violence in schools may be gun detectors to confiscate the guns before they even get in the door. Many inner-city schools nationwide currently have gun detectors in place. It would be interesting to know how effective this system has been for them. Your thesis is very appropriate since school shootings have been a huge problem recently but maybe the funds would be better allocated in researching programs that find the root cause of WHY kids seek the guns in the first place.
Do you mean gun control laws will curb school violence? What type of gun control are you persuading for?

Anything that shoots and kils and hurts people must be prohibited in schools, there is not much to say about it.
