Sergey's thesis

The government must take serious steps towards cleaner environment, and persuade people to save as much as possible.

  1. I agree my thesis is some what like yours it has to do with the government stepping in and putting restrictions on recycling. I believe that the world needs to be a cleaner place! great thesis. People need just a little extra push in order for there to be a change!

  2. Maybe the government should reward companies and individuals that have environmentally sound practices, as well as penalties for excessive pollution. Incentives such as tax breaks for going green could be given for significant improvements "environmentally friendly" practices to companies using less pacakaging to individual household showing reduced waste and energy savings.

  3. I disagree, I think that there are alot of other things that the government could be putting money and effort into. If the causation happens on the way to another initiative that's great but in general solely focusing on being "green" is too bogged down at this point.

  4. I am not sure what you mean by "save" in your statement. There are already legislations and government agencies in place for some "green" projects with supposedly more on the way. The government has not been the best driver on environmental impacts in the past, how do propose they could actually influence a difference, other than stop subsidizing oil and car manufacturers?

  5. My only question is: what are considered "serious steps?" Yes, I agree that we need to be taking some steps and changing some things to make a cleaner environment, but then again some of the things we are presently doing are also helping. I would just like to hear what your ideas are for creating a cleaner environment.

  6. I don't completely understand your thesis. Are you thinking more in terms of conservation? Conservation is one way to ease pressure on the envoronment. Perhaps you're alluding to more governmental regulations in general on things like recycling, CO2 emissions, natural resource conservation, etc. I trust you to make it clear in your speech and look forward to it.

  7. I agree with your thesis. Except I think that your thesis is a little too broad. I have no idea what direction you're planning to take your speech other than being for government involvement in laws impacting the environment. Maybe changing around your thesis would lead you in a clearer direction for your speech. There are already many governmental laws (state & national) that are for the government, and I know that the Obama Admin. has tried taking greater steps in direction of environmental involvment from the government. I know that there is a lot more than can be done, but I'm just curious to what you have in mind!

  8. I also am a little confused by your thesis, what exactly do you mean by "save", and what kinds of "steps" do you think need to be taken by the government? Maybe focusing your thesis would help, or maybe this will all be cleared up in your persuasive speech. Either way, I am looking forward to hearing your speech.

  9. I always prefer people to make changes because of cultural pressure or better information and education rather than through government legislation. But this is an area I happen to agree with you on. People simply won't give up their lazy ways without some intervention. Recycling programs in schools at the elementary level went a long way toward getting communities to recycle. But a reduction in air pollution, for example, will take more than a person simply not driving his/her car one day a week- an especially big sacrifice if it's a cool one. :)

  10. I agree. The government should have done something to protect the environment. The issue of global warming is great and we should do something about it. I guess we can help by use less energy but the government has to help us on that part. There should be a stimulus package on the environment, something like this will help make it better i guess.

  11. i agree that the government should do something, but it is also indiviuals as well as corperations that need to make changes. the government should provide individuals with easier alternatives to use less resourses, recycle, transport, etc. but the government definitly should be taking steps in that direction.

  12. I am confused by your statement. What are you suggesting that the government do? and in what ways are we needing to "save"?

  13. Good stepping stone for the rest of your speech. It is clear that our nation is very good at making messes and with the help and encouragement of our government we can help clean up the planet.

  14. I both agree and disagree. I agree because yes they do need to do something about the environment but at the same time, they have more pressing measures at hand.

  15. I agree. Global warming, the shortage of oil, and pollution are all affected by our ability to become more "Green." I think this idea is starting to spread and we need to do more in our legislation to make sure this change occurs.

  16. I agree one hundred percent. After all, what government would not promote greater good? The one that should not operate in any way, in my humble opinion.

  17. I agree that the government has a responsibility to assist with cleaning up the environment but the government alone cannot do it all. We as individuals also need to do our part by driving less, recycling, and creating less waste, for example. Pollution is a global issue and will require a team effort to solve it. You touched on this very well in your speech. The Russian Mercedes' approach seems very promising!
